The Book Thief by: Markus Zusaf

The first book from the summer reading list that I will be discussing is, The Book Thief, by Markus Zusaf. This is a holocaust book with a unique narrator, Death himself.  It follows a young girl through the second world war as she struggles to survive harsh and challenging situations.  So far I am impressed by the imagery he incorporates in the story. His use of color, specifically, adds to the abstract telling that amplifies the readers appreciation of death as an everpresent theme. I am compelled to read further by my fascination with the notice that Death would take of a living girl and her struggles in what, I imagine would be a very busy time for Death. Death's release of the soul from the body is actually reminiscent of the Showtime Series, Dead Like Me, from a decade ago.

Welcome

Welcome to my 9 Honors Blog.  It is here that I hope discuss the books and assignments that we will be reading, both over the summer and during the school year. I think it high time that the world of Education step into the world of technology and embrace the new rather than to cower in fear of it.  I am really looking forward to meeting all the 9 Honors students and getting to know your thoughts on all things class related.  My e-mail is Mr.Rapp.English@gmail.com and all the summer reading papers are available at my Google Documents web site.

Welcome again and lets get this school year started with a lively discussion on the books you are reading.
